About / Pharmatiya

A senior evidence team, not a staffing model.

We work with commercial, medical affairs, and HEOR teams inside pharmaceutical and device companies, and directly with payers and providers. The people who scope your study are the people who run it.

That matters because the failure mode in this work is a protocol written by someone who will never touch the data. We keep design, analysis, and interpretation with the same senior team, and we have spent enough time on the payer side to know which evidence actually moves an access decision.

02How we got here

Forty-seven dated entries. Output is steadiest through the hospital epidemiology years, thins between 2009 and 2012, and peaks at 7 in 2018, the year of the mSToPS trial. Four working periods are marked: 2003 to 2011, 2011 to 2014, 2014 to 2019, and 2019 to 2022.200320082013201820227Published entries per year
2003–2011

Intermountain Healthcare — outcomes research to director of HEOR

Clinical pharmacist and outcomes researcher, then director of HEOR, inside an integrated delivery network. Industry-sponsored, protocol-driven outcomes studies on the enterprise data warehouse, and epidemiology with the Division of Clinical Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at LDS Hospital.

2011–2014

ActiveHealth Management — pharmacy informatics and pharmacovigilance

Director of pharmacy informatics, improving and building clinical programs — polypharmacy, medication adherence, risk adjustment. With physicians and the Aetna Innovation Lab, co-developed a claims-based pharmacovigilance platform for generating hypotheses about drugs, devices, and biologics. The method is patented: US 8,744,872.

2014–2019

Healthagen — an outcomes research business on the payer side

Conceived, built, and ran the outcomes research business inside a payer: retrospective HEOR on claims, and prospective pragmatic trials built on the pharmacovigilance outputs — including the nationwide mSToPS atrial fibrillation screening trial, published in JAMA in 2018.

2019–2022

Machine learning in outcomes research

Hospitalization risk in COVID-19, guideline conformance in type 2 diabetes, and published work on where machine learning improves on traditional statistical modeling in healthcare analytics — and where it does not.

Current

Pharmatiya, and provider-side evidence today

An independent HEOR and RWE practice working directly with commercial, medical affairs, and market access teams. Alongside it: research and value-based contracting built from a national provider's EHR data, and an advisory seat on the American Diabetes Association's Overcoming Therapeutic Inertia initiative.

03Who we are

Credentials matter to the people who commission this work, so we list them.

Rajesh R. Mehta, R.Ph., M.S.

Principal

A clinical pharmacist who moved into outcomes research and has spent twenty-five years on every side of the data: director of HEOR inside an integrated delivery network, co-developer of a patented claims-based pharmacovigilance platform, and the person who built a payer's outcomes research business from the ground up, where he ran retrospective studies and prospective pragmatic trials — among them the mSToPS atrial fibrillation screening trial in JAMA. He now works on the provider side, building research and value-based contracting from EHR data, and advises the American Diabetes Association's Overcoming Therapeutic Inertia initiative.
